MANILA, Philippines - Toll due to tropical storm Cosme has risen to 12 dead and 9 injured, the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) reported on Monday, as the typhoon continued to move farther away from the country.

In its latest bulletin, NDCC stated that as of Monday, death toll has reached 12 with fatalities from the provinces that were hardest hit by the storm including Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Zambales and Antique.
As this developed, GMA’s Flash Report on Monday morning reported that at least 7,000 families in 50 barangays of Regions 1, 3, 6 and the Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) were affected while 800 houses were destroyed.

The report said among the worst hit were the province of Pangasinan and some parts of La Union. The roads in Benguet, Kalingan and Ifugao remain impassable due to landslide. The power supply in the affected provinces had been restored except in Pangasinan and Zambales.

On the other hand, residents of Zambales and Dagupan, Pangasinan have started repairing and cleaning their homes as the weather continued to improve Monday morning.
Typhoon Cosme also passed the town of Sual, where CFF is located, plenty of schools and houses were dismantled. Several stone riffraff of the center, were torn down by the raging water from the mountain. Thanks God for protecting our children and staffs, it was good that they evacuated the third building immediately before the landslide. Six newly constructed bahay-kubo that are used for the accomodation of the campers were all demolished, most of it are tossed up and down by the twister.
The first building also took damage from the wind, some of the roofings was ripped up. Fortunately, the second building which serves as the refugee house for the children and the staffs didn't took a serious damage. CFF is experienceing power outage, until now. Pilipino ex-campers from Asingan, Binmaley and Sual came to CFF to help in rebuilding the facility. As of today, June 5, 2008, half of the bahay-kubo are already rebuild back to what it used to be. Donations from CFF Japan, CFF Malaysia(Mr. Abe) and NISVA is a great help for rebuilding the center, however, the damage is tremendous, we hope and pray that our Dear Lord will help us all.
