Workcamp with the Japanese Youth and Igorot Community PDF Print E-mail

Baito, Sual – The workcamp is located in the mountainous area of Sual, wherein only 4WD and trucks can climb the slopes. The people usually travel by foot, whether by going to school, market or even to the medical center. Electricity, Water and Access Road are the things that this village needs.

And so, their wish was granted by 30 Japanese Youths Campers. With only 2 guys, they did their best in cooperation with the community people and Filipino Campers, to make possibilities in restoring the broken water system which was built years ago.

“The work is very hard and Philippines is very hot, but it is fun working with everyone” a lady camper told me when I came to watch at the work area. 28 ladies and 2 men came to the country to work, if they can noticed these things, why can’t we? I asked another camper, Why did you participate in the camp, knowing that the village has no electricity and water? It is a complete opposite of Japan today, “I want to do something for the others, there are plenty of tour package to the Philippines, but workcamp is good because you can visit other country and also do something for the others.”

The Mayor of Sual also learned about this workcamp and sent support groups including the employee of the motorpool who came to fix the road for better access, police to ensure security and safety and the Sangguniang Bayan who came to support the program. TeaM Energy (Sual Power Plant) also heard about this camp and contacted me about this matter, then they asked for a meeting with Mr. Akira Futagoishi. TeaM Energy is conducting a research of Baito Village potable drinking water system, they want to joint force with the Youth workcampers.

Mr. Akira Futagoishi, the founder of Caring for the Future Foundation is the main key how these things happen. We are still looking forward for the next camp wherein Sual Municipality and TeaM Energy will joint force for the wellness of the Baito Village’s living. The main point of these article is very simple yet no one noticed – it’s “Caring”
